WELCOME to the website for the Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder's Office. The Clerk and Recorder's office is responsible for operating the State Motor Vehicle Division for Gilpin County. The Clerk and Recorder's office is also responsible for issuing and recording marriage licenses, recording all real estate transactions, issuing liquor licenses, recording the Board of County Commissioner meeting minutes, registering voters, conducting all primary, general and county elections and, when contracted, municipal and school district elections.

Please read the below carefully:

Customers are limited to 2 transactions per appointment. If you have more than 2, please call and schedule an appointment so that we can schedule you when staff is available.
AVOID LATE FEES! For the fastest service please mail a check/money order or drop it off in the ballot box in front of the Old Courthouse. You may also pay online or pay at a kiosk. Many transactions, including registrations, renewals, and titling can be completed online or at a kiosk.

  • We will open to walk-in customers as of June 1, 2021. Please note that customers with appointments will be given priority and seen first. Walk-in customers will be seen as time and staffing allows. We will call you when it is your turn and may ask you to return at another time. Walk in customers will still be limited to 2 transactions. Last customer will be seen at 4pm. 
  • MV appointments are to be scheduled online only, unless otherwise stated in the scheduling system. We are currently taking appointments through July 31.
  • We are closed daily from 12:30pm to 1:30pm for lunch. 
  • Customers are limited to 2 transactions per appointment. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • If you have more than 2 transactions, please call and schedule an appointment so we can schedule you when there is sufficient staff to assist you. 
  • All individuals will be called by their confirmed appointment.
  • Appointments will be forfeited if you are more than 5 minutes late.
  • Title Searchers in Recording must make an appointment due to computer availability. 
  • Pets are not permitted in the building. 
  • All individuals entering county property are required to wear a face mask.
HOURS: 8 am to 4pm Monday through Friday. No Motor Vehicle Titles will be processed after 4pm.  Recorded documents received after 4pm will be recorded on the next business day.

NOTE: The Passport Office is currently closed to issuing Passports.
