Motor Vehicles

The Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder’s office is responsible for vehicle registration, titling and issuing license plates.  You may pay for your license fees with personal checks, cash or credit cards. There is a notary on-site for your convenience (please check for availability).

Many DMV transactions can be completed on line at mydmv.colorado.gov or at a kiosk at many supermarkets.
Kiosk list can be found here:
https://comvexpress.com

You can also renew by mail or by dropping your check/money order (no cash) in the ballot box in front of the Old Courthouse. This avoids long wait times for an appointment and AVOIDS LATE FEES.

You will be able to see your time and date of your appointment as you schedule it. You will get a confirmation email as well as a reminder email before your appointment.

  • Customers are limited to 2 transactions per appointment, no exceptions. Please call for an appointment for 3 or more transactions so that we can schedule an appointment when there is sufficient staff to assist you.

Please note that customers with appointments will be given priority and seen first. Walk-in customers will be seen as time and staffing allows.
